This 9cm potted Camellia is a type of broad-leafed, evergreen shrub that is useful in border areas which contain acidic soil. The “Tricolor” effect is a combination of three plants growing in a seemingly inseparable, vertical bush.
The lush flowers which are typically combined in a red, white and pink pattern appear towards the end of winter and beginning of spring. And therefore, have helped give the it the moniker, the “Rose of Winter”.
Because of its diverse and colorful beauty, the Camellia japonica “Tricolor” is a winner of the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Merit. Additional components of the flower’s beauty include a semi-double blossom with a width of 10 to 15 cm, often accented with streaks of red.
They can effectively be grown in large containers for a patio or smaller garden environment. It is important to prune the plant effectively in order to control the overall size and shape of the plant. Also, as a part of regular maintenance and care, it is important to monitor the soil pH to ensure acidity and when appropriate add fertiliser for acid-loving plants.
