An interesting shrub with dense thickets of small, spiny, dark green foliage throughout the year. As with most varieties of Gaultheria, the ‘Snow White’ is a hardy evergreen with a suckering growth habit and, starting from late Spring, loose clusters of small, drooping, bell-shaped, white flowers lasting to the beginnings of Autumn and giving way to large, pink speckled white berries. The berries are more likely to appear if planted near a male variety to ensure pollination.
Plant in moist, well-drained, peaty, slightly acidic soils and keep in a partially shaded position. Tolerant of full sun if soil moisture is maintained. Fruit can cause indigestion and an upset stomach and is not recommended for human consumption.
