A delicate looking but hardy perennial with graceful, airy stems which flow and shift with the breeze, carrying beautifully bright Summer blooms. The Gaura or Oenothera 'Whirling Butterflies' is a compact variety with upright, thin stems which carry small pink buds in late Spring and early Summer. These bloom to elegant, star-shaped white flowers with long, arching anthers and a long flowering period lasting right through to the Autumn, where the light green foliage takes on soft hues of orange and red.
Plant in moist, well-drained, sandy or loamy soils and keep in full or partial sun. Tolerant of drought, heat and humidity, making it a versatile plant for just about any sunny position. This particular variety does not self-seed and can be rather short lived. Good for filling gaps or covering edges as the wispy stems will droop and lean.
